Back in the pool

I keep getting detached from this blog. I will say this though, I am back in the pool swimming like an undead porpoise. Rode this weekend and the swimming is helping. Got up hills at a speed comparable to slothlike...which is an improvement.

I'm trying to swim about 3-4 nights a weeek, and with my PR class being finished as of last night, I now have an extra night to play with.

You're a bit of a big fella....

My wife bought a scale yesterday and I weighed myself. The results weren't pretty.

265.4lbs.

This is the largest I have ever been in my life. I am ashamed of myself. My first thought was how did this happen, except I know exactly how this happened. I eat shitty food and I eat a lot of it. I stopped exercising like I used to. I have to find my motivation again and start dropping this fat.

My goal: Lose 60lbs. When I started triathlon I was 205 lbs. I can get back there.

I have a long way to go.

Here is the schedule for 2009

It starts in April and goes through October. Seven sprint triathlons. With school and work I realize this is a demanding schedule and I am probably setting myself up for a fall, but I will give it a go.

April 26 - Angels Race Triathlon - Lynchburg, VA*
May 23 - Got the Nerve Triathlon - Mt. Gretna, PA*
June 21 - Charlottesville Sprint Triathlon - Charlottesville, VA
July 26 - Hagerstown Sprint Triathlon - Hagerstown, MD
August 2 - Culpeper Sprint 2009 - Culpeper, VA
September 13 - Diamondman Sprint Triathlon - Bear, DE
October 4 - Giant Acorn Triathlon - Bumpass, VA

(*raced previously)
Since I have not yet entered any of these the schedule is subject to change based on availability. At this moment I am rather looking forward to this.

I will stand on a soapbox

So I checked trifind.net the other day and have started to pick out a few tris for the year.

Here are my declarations for 2009
  • I am going to race nothing but sprint tris this year.
  • I am going to race one a month.
  • I will start in April and race to September. (Maybe October if I can stay motivated)

And that is it. Three declarations. Now I just have to get back in shape.

Two wheels of torture

are what my bicycle is in the beginning of the season. I haven't ridden since October and frankly feel a bit disgusting about it. Races are coming up soon though so I need to get off my ass and start pedaling again.

This weekend I am getting back on the Bianchi and going out for 20 miles. It isn't a whole lot, but it is a start. Hopefully I won't break the bicycle.

In the beginning....

There was a fat man. More importantly there was a fat man who liked to do triathlon. Bit of an oxymoron there but it is the truth.

My name is Skye (a.k.a the Fat Man, Iron Panda, Skyrunner75, and in my mind Big Sexy) and this is Fat Man Triing, I set up this blog for several reasons:
  • To encourage people of large stature that getting out and doing sports, athletics, races, and other events is possible and you are welcome.
  • To chronicle my trials and tribulations as I train for another Ironman/ Iron distance race.
  • To discuss and comment on triathlon, one of my favorite sports, from my large perspective

This is my first blog, so you will have to bear with me as figure this out. More to follow...
